Manual handling toolbox talks

TOOLBOX TALKS FOR CONSTRUCTION WORKERS

As part orf the Jersey Safety Council’s campaign to assist the construction industry with occupational health, our manual handling expert provided a toolbox talk on site at six locations on 1 April.  Over 100 workers in total watched Mark Embrey run through the basics of the back and how strain can be avoided through demonstration with various items on site.    Mark felt the workers were receptive and he hopes that they are able to use his demonstration to avoid long term back problems.A couple of comments from the Site Managers after the demonstrations:

"He told us the facts, and didn’t diverse to drag it out, and with the help of his models put the point across very well.
He also threw in some humour as well, which made listening worth while!"

"Think the guys on site take more of an interest to outside people,
I get the feeling if we discuss these items the guys just think we are harping on to them again."

Council will be developing the Occupational Health in Construction section of the website over the following weeks along with a poster campaign.
