Employers and employees working in an office environment have a duty to consider health and safety.  This DVD takes a comprehensive look at office safety and what you can do to help make your office a safer place to work.

This DVD sets out the principles of risk assessment, showing how to analyse where there is a risk and if necessary, what action to take.  It also uses strong visual images to help you and your staff realise dangers within the workplace and their responsibility to protect themselves and others. 
It teaches by example how to assess the risks involved by helping identify the operatives at risk, the tasks they have to perform, the equipment they use, the structure and conditions of the workplace and the working environment.  The DVD demonstrates to management and employees the importance of eliminating risks within the workplace for the safety of themselves and their colleagues.


SLIPS, TRIPS AND FALLS – THE FACTS

This training DVD highlights the importance of preventing slip and trip hazards in the workplace, to help your company reduce the risk of injury.  Over a third of all reported accidents are caused by slips and trips.
There are a number of causes and preventions for slip and trip hazards, many of which are identified in this DVD. 


STRESS IN THE WORKPLACE – THE FACTS
Running time – 15 minutes


Work related stress can be defined as ’the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressures or other types of demand placed upon them’.   The DVD will tackle work-related stress and advise how to improve and maintain employee health and well-being.    It clearly identifies areas of stress and the many factors that relate to different individuals.  There is no single person who is ’immune’ from stress so it is vital that every employee has stress training.


WORKING AT HEIGHTS – THE FACTS
Running time – 35 minutes


Working at Heights is a high risk activity and it is vitally important that all employers and employees make sure safety is a top priority.  No job is so important that it cannot be done safely.
This DVD covers:
The need to follow safe systems at work – to comply with your training – how accidents can happen – how to stay safe whilst working at heights – and up to date legislation and how it affects you.


HEALTH AND SAFETY IN THE WOODWORKING INDUSTRY
Running time – 23 minutes


This DVD is aimed at managers and supervisors in the woodworking industry, but will also be useful for training operators, making them more aware of health and safety risks.  In particular it shows :
- The importance of a health and safety strategy for your business
- That the majority of woodworking machinery accidents can be prevented by ensuring operators are properly trained and supervised
- Safe working practices, properly guarded machines and the use of safety devices
- The various health hazards in the woodworking industry.

WHOSE RISK IS IT ANYWAY? Running time: 17 minutes
Every day managers of small businesses deal with all sorts of hazards and risks that can cause injury and loss to the business they run and the people they employ. Risk assessment is a way of finding out what could cause injury and what can be done to prevent it.

SIGNPOSTS FOR HEALTH & SAFETY – Series of 5 videos
The half hour programmes visit a variety of businesses showing how they have successfully dealt with a range of health and safety issues. Companies visited include a hairdresser, a construction company, a farmer, a scaffolder, a jam-making and bottling company, a printing works, a clothes manufacturer, an engineering works and a hotel. Each programme includes a surgery where a health and safety expert gives advice to a business owner on how to tackle a particular problem.
Programme 1 containes advivce on how to get started and on dealing with noise at work. The surgery discusses who is responsible for contractors on site.

THE ADVENTURES OF NAPO Running time: 26 minutes
Issues related to health and safety at work should never be taken lightly. The process of learning to be safe at work and protecting those who may be affected by workplace activities, especially young people and other workers who have little or no experience of work, can be made easier through this computer animated video. The video is based on a number of amusing sketches but which carry an important message.

FIRE SAFETY FOR HOSPITALS AND CARE HOMES Running time 18 minutes.
Part 1: Fire prevention, fire action good housekeeping and evacuation.
Fire safety legislation places strict requirements on hospitals and care homes to train their staff in the basics of fire safety. Part 1 covers fire prevention, the importance of fire doors, the dangers of oxygen supplies and details what action staff should take if they discover a fire or hear the fire alarm.

OFFICE SAFETY ESSENTIALS Running time: 21 minutes
How safe would you rate your office? Too often we overlook the importance of office safety due to the discreet nature of office hazards. This video highlights what to look out for and gives practical guidance on workstation design, housekeeping, avoidance of electrical hazards, manual handling and storage, dealing with stress, emergency procedures and security.

VDU & WORKSTATION ERGONOMICS Running time: 23 minutes
By using case studies and solutions this video clearly explains to the viewers how they should go about analysing the ergonomics of their workstation. VDU and workstation hazards, correct posture, position of screen, keyboard and desk relative to the user are analysed. Correct chair adjustment, the work environment, workplace layout, task design, work organisation and daily exercises are also covered.

OFFICE ERGONOMICS Running time: 15 minutes
This is aimed firmly at those employees who spend a large part of their working lives sitting behind desks, using VDUs, looking for files or fetching day to day stationery. The intended audience is made up of those who are likely to suffer from ailments - some excruciatingly painful - caused by bad office ergonomics and poor working practices.


CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

GAME OVER Running time: 9 minutes
Every year children are injured and killed as a result of construction activities. The purpose of this video is to keep children off building sites. It is aimed at 7-11 year olds. The programme is in two parts. The first is a drama (6½ mins) about three children who goon to building sites with disastrous consequences; the second part gives a resume of other hazards that could hurt them (2½ mins) and reinforces the message : Never go on a building site. This relates to the national curriculum Key Stage 2 (Science)

PLAN YOUR SLINGING Running time: 16 minutes
A slinger has to know which sling to use, how to use it, what signals to give the crane driver and how to move a load safely. This video demonstrates the precautions and planning necessary in the professional movement of equipment and materials which require a ’sling’. The full lifting procedure is described in seven significant steps.

DANGEROUS MANOEUVRES Running time: 8 minutes
This short film considers a number of situations which may lead to lateral overturning. The effects of these dangerous manoeuvres are demonstrated using a specially adapted counterbalanced lift truck. Lift truck overturning accidents are usually serious and frequently cause fatal injuries to the operator. The potential consequences of incorrect operating technique are often not fully appreciated by operators. The issues raised in this film apply to all designs of lift truck and will be beneficial to both trainee and established lift truck operators.


MANUAL HANDLING

MINIMISING BACKSTRAIN Running time: 24 minutes
This promotes good ergonomics in every workplace situation from shop floor to office. The video explains the cause of back pain that afflicts most people at some time during their working life and shows how thoughtful planning can help reduce the incidence of back pain.


MISCELLANEOUS

ESCAPING THE MAZE Running time: 20 minutes
Dramatically illustrated by the experiences of ordinary people in ordinary jobs, this video navigates the virtual maze of workplace health and safety information sources. It provides a guide to gathering health and safety information and maps paths through to the solutions to health and safety problems.

HOW ARE YOU MANAGING? Running time: 28 minutes
Dealing with the risks of asbestos in buildings
Part one of this video How are you today? provides a hard-hitting portrayal of the final days in the life of a building worker suffering from mesothelioma. It graphically demonstrates the potential outcome for those who are unknowingly being exposed to asbestos fibres in their day to day work. The key message is the importance of checking wither material contains asbestos before starting work.
Part two of the video How are you Managing? Shows how a dutyholder might address the requirements of the duty to manage from the perspective of a large and a small organization.
The clear message is that the scale of the task in complying with the regulation will vary depending on the size and complexity of the premises. The duty has been specifically designed to be proportionate, only requiring costs where the risk demands it.

CONTROL OF SUBSTANCES HAZARDOUS TO HEALTH (COSHH) in the LEISURE INDUSTRY - THE FACTS Running time: 14 minutes
If exposure to hazardous substances is not prevented or properly controlled, it can cause serious illness, even death. COSHH - The Facts is a training aid for COSHH assessment. The video looks at the responsibility of safety officers/managers to provide the correct protection against harmful & hazardous substances.

SCRATCH AND SNIFF Running time: 12 minutes This video uses humour to get a serious message across about chemical risks at work. It should appeal to all workers, especially young or inexperienced ones, and will help them to identify warning symbols correctly, understand the risks posed by chemicals at work and reduce those risks by improving work practices


HEALTH AND SAFETY ON THE FARM


BACK On the Farm Running time: 16 minutes
This video looks at practical solutions to some common manual handling problems on farms. It shows how the use of manual handling aids, tools and techniques can reduce the risk of back injury. The equipment demonstrated ranges from purpose-built wheel handlers to a ’hitching’ stick. It also gives tips on ways of lifting, carrying and using tools to reduce the strain on your body.


SAFE DRIVING ON SLOPES Running time: 19 minutes
This video training guide will inform and instruct people working in agriculture about the dangers and safe methods of driving farm vehicles and machinery on slopes, as these are a major cause of injuries and fatalities.


NO SECOND CHANCES Running time: 13 minutes
Every year, farm workers are injured and killed in accidents involving machinery. The video looks at the potentially fatal consequences of ignoring safe working practices. (Pack includes a safety training guide to enable employers to run in-house safety awareness training courses.)

TRACTOR ACTION Running time: 17 Minutes
Every year a number of people die or are seriously injured as a result of accidents involving tractors. Using hard-hitting reconstructions the video describes safe working practices for tractor operation. The enclosed training guide can be used by trainers of agricultural employees for workplace based training.

OFF GUARD Running time: 11 minutes
This video follows a typical farming family examining some of the causes of PTO shaft related accidents.

COSHH IN AGRICULTURE Running time: 18 minutes
This video gives an introduction to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (UK) for those involved in Agriculture. Four people describe effects on their health from working in agriculture.
