Safe use of ladders and steps

Legislation: Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law, 1989, Work at Height Regulations 2005
Designed to give an understanding of the need for safe use of ladders and steps. To train the operative to a level of competence to carry out ladder inspections and to create a safe system of work when dealing with ladders and steps.

Course content will include Inspections and Register, Safe Systems of work, component use and inspections, height to base ratio calculation.

Who should attend?
Anyone who erects and uses ladders or steps.


Safe Working At Height

Legislation: Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law, 1989, Work At Height Regulations 2005

Designed to give an understanding of the need for safe working at height. To train the operative to a level of competence that they understand the concept of working at height.

Who should attend?
Anyone who erects and uses mobile scaffold towers, Mobile elevated work platforms, ladders and steps or anyone who works at height


Safety Awareness

Legislation: Health and Safety At Work Jersey Law 1989

Designed to give people who work on site the basic knowledge to help make them aware of the dangers on site not only to themselves but to others, it will help them understand risk assessments and method statements so as to enable them to carry out their work safely and to highlight areas that might have been overlooked

Any person working on site


Safety Harness

Legislation: Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law, 1989, Work At Height Regulations 2005, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations

This course has been developed for persons that work at height and are required to use a Harness as a means of reducing the risk of a fall, the course also covers the use of harnesses in cherry pickers (boom type lifts)

Anyone who uses a Safety Harness for their work or business


Load and Secure

Legislation: Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law, 1989,Provision and use of work equipment regulations 1989, Lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations 1989

This course covers the loading, transportation and unloading of plant, material and equipment from a transporter, it covers all aspects of the work from correctly sighting the transportation vehicle to the safe attachment of restraining devices.

Who should attend?
Any person that drives vehicles for the transportation of plant, materials and equipment


Telescopic Handler

Legislation: Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law, 1989, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations

Designed to give an understanding of the need for safe operation of a telehandler. To train the operative to a level of competence that they can operate the telehandler in a safe manner, including the safe loading and unloading of vehicles, the storage of equipment, placing and retrieving loads from various heights, also if required training can also include attachments for the lifting and moving of loads on site.

Course content will include pre-start checks, loading and unloading at height and the safe use of a telehandler.

Who should attend?
Anyone who uses a telehandler for their business.

Hand Held Hedge-cutters

Legislation: Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law, 1989, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations

Designed to give an understanding of the need for safe operation of any hand held hedge trimmer. To train the operative to a level of competence that they can operate the hedge trimmer in a safe manner.

Course content will include pre-start checks, safe use of the hedge trimmer.

Any gardeners or horticulturists who use hedge trimmers.


Strimmer’s

Mowers Lawn and Ride-on

Designed to give an understanding, of the need for safe operation of any lawn mower. To train the operative to a level of competence that they can operate the lawn mower in a safe manner

Course content will include pre-start checks and safe operation of a lawn mower.

Loading Shovel

Legislation: Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law, 1989, Provision and use of work equipment regulations 1989, Lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations 1989

This course has been designed to give the operator to a basic standard so they can operate safely on site this includes daily checks, making stock piles, levelling, loading dumpers and Lorries.  The course can be tailored to specific operations like green waste handling

Lorry Loader (HIAB)

Designed to give an understanding, of the need for safe operation of a lorry loader. To train the operative to a level of competence that they can operate the lorry loader in a safe manner

Course content will include pre-start checks, safe use of slings, strops, shackles and attachments and safe operation of the lorry loader .

Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) Boom

Rear Dump Truck

Legislation: Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law, 1989,Provision and use of work equipment regulations 1989, Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005

Designed to give an understanding of the need for safe operation of a Rear tipping dumper both ridged and articulated. To train the operative to a level of competence that they can operate the Rear Tipping Dumper in a safe manner

Course content will include site safety, the identification of hazards associated with rear tipping dumpers, safe movement of plant on site, how to operate the dumper safely when loaded and unloaded, Daily inspection requirements, Forming stock piles

Who should attend?
Operators that have never received formal training and wish to operate on site, persons that are wishing to further their career into plant operations

Ride on Roller

Legislation: Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law, 1989,Provision and use of work equipment regulations 1989, Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005

Designed to give an understanding, of the need for safe operation of a ride on roller. To train the operative to a level of competence that they can operate the roller in a safe manner

Course content will include pre-start checks, correct and safe use of a ride on roller, Compaction density for different material types, how to compact an area safely

Who should attend?
Anyone who uses a ride on roller.

Risk assessments and Method Statements training

This course has been designed to enable the persons responsible for others to assess the work and work place so that a risk assessment and method statement.

Who should attend?
Any person that is responsible for the delegation, supervision of others whilst at work


Rough Terrain Forklift

This course is identical to the industrial counter balance forklift course, but will also include the operation of the truck over various types of terrain.

Who should attend?
Anyone who operates rough terrain forklifts on site

Safety in Excavations

Legislation: Health and Safety at Work, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, Manual Handling operations Regulations, Excavation inspection and reports, Excavation / Trench guarding and site safety

Anyone who works in or supervises the installation, adjustments / modification and removal of trench supports

Designed to give an understanding, of the need for safe operation of a 360 excavator. To train the operative to a level of competence that they can operate the excavator in a safe manner

Course content will include pre-start checks, Excavation, Trench work, Basic trench support loading dumpers and lorries. Safe use of an excavator

Who should attend?
Any excavator driver or anybody who uses a backhoe excavator

360 degree Excavator above and below 10t tracked and wheeled

Designed to give an understanding, of the need for safe operation of a 360 excavator. To train the operative to a level of competence that they can operate the excavator in a safe manner

Course content will include pre-start checks, Excavation, Trench work, Basic trench support loading dumpers and lorries. Safe use of an excavator

Who should attend?
Any excavator driver or anybody who uses an excavator

Agricultural Tractor with or without implements

Legislation: Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law, 1989, Provision and use of work equipment regulations 1989, Lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations 1989, Manual Handling Operations Regulations

This course covers such a wide variety of attachments that it is best to contact us for specific information.  The course can be for both novices and experienced personnel, novices would be taken to the basic operator level where they could operate on site safely, hitch and unhitch a trailer and attachment of equipment to the rear 3 point linkage.   Experienced operators would be skilled assessed on any attachments they choose or require .  This course does not include driver training for road use
