Passport to Safety
Passport to Safety Scheme
With effect from 1 September 2007, all persons requiring access to a site which is under the control of a member of the Major Contractors Group, is required to hold a valid Passport to Safety card.
It should be noted that this is a decision which has been made by members of the industry and is not a legal requirement under health and safety legislation.
The Passport to Safety Scheme was set up in 2005 by the Jersey Building and Allied Trades Employers’ Federation (JBATEF). The aim of the scheme is to assist the industry in improving its health and safety performance by raising the awareness of persons involved in construction to health and safety issues.
The scheme involves individuals taking an interactive computer test which is available at a number of locations, with three general categories, Operative, Supervisor and Visitor to choose from.
The test is available in a number of languages, English, Portuguese, Polish and French, to enable persons from different nationalities who work in the industry to take the test in their preferred language.
Persons who successfully complete the test are provided with a card which can be shown to employers and contractors in control of construction sites. A central record of of cardholders will be kept by the JBATEF.
Further details of the scheme are available in the question sets which are available to download.
