HAND ARM VIBRATION

Legislation

Hand arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) is a widespread industrial disease better known as White Finger Vibration (VWF).  Any vibrating tool or process which causes tingling or numbness after 5-10 minutes is included.  Examples are grinders, chain saws, hand held saws, mowers and strimmers.  Control is through proper selection of low vibration tools, avoidance of over exposure  and training.

Who should attend
Those in charge of supplying tools should attend a full HAV course that provides measurement advice, purchasing strategies and surveillance guidance.   Those working with tools should attend a toolbox course providing information on what to look for and how to seek help.
