FIRE SAFETY AWARENESS TRAINING COURSES

FIRE SAFETY AWARENESS

Who whould attend?
All members of staff, especially useful as part of an induction programme.

Objective:
To provide delegates with greater awareness and understanding of the dangers of fire and to assist them in identifying and reducing the risk that fire presents in the workplace.

Areas covered includes :
- Characteristics of fire
- Legislation
- Appreciation of fire precautions
- Importance of good housekeeping
- Importance of means of escape
- Actions on discovering a fire
- Introduction to fire extinguishers
- Principle of fire action plans
- Main causes of fire
- Evacuation procedures

FIRE MARSHAL

Who should attend? :
All members of staff undertaking the role of a Fire Marshal, or those with an identified role in the event of a fire.

Objective:
To provide delegates with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to act as confident and competent Fire Marshals and assist in the management of fire risk reduction in the workplace.

Areas covered include:
- Importance of fire safety at work
- Legislative requirements
- Role & responsibilities of a Fire Marshal
- Understanding of fire precautions
- Reducing false alarms
- Managing good housekeeping
- Human behaviour in fire situations
- Managing evacuation procedures
- Hazard identification & reduction
- Managing fire drills, roll calls and assembly points
- Fire service liaison
- Arson reduction

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

Who should attend?
Any member of staff with a potential need to utilise a fire extinguisher.

Objective:
To provide delegates with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to confidently operate fire extinguishers to reduce the potential damage caused by fire in the workplace.

Areas covered include:
- Classes of fire
- Selecting the right extinguisher
- Identification of extinguisher types
- Methodology of use
- Limitations and capabilities
- Extinguisher features
- Personal safety
- Demonstrations of all types of fire extinguishers
- Practical use of water extinguishers on live fires
- Practical use of foam extinguishers on live fires
- Practical use of Carbon Dioxide extinguishers
- Safe use of fire blankets

The above are three examples of the type of training in fire awareness as a guide.  Each company will offer similar or combined, please ensure you are clear in what you are requiring when discussing with training provider.

FIRST AID

Legislation: Construction Safety Provisions (Jersey) Regulations 1970

A trained first aider requirement is dependant on the circumstances of each place of work.  An assessment of risk and number of employees should be taken into account.

First Aid at Work is an essential for workplace First Aiders.  Course content includes first aid kit, record keeping, resuscitation, choking, bleeding, burns, poisoning and shock.  It is a four day course valid for three years.

A Skills Update/Practice session course is available at any time during the three years.

First Aid at Work Requalification is a two day update and renewal of the 3 year First Aid at Work certificate.

Emergency Aid for Appointed Persons is a one day course that is ideal for smaller workplaces that present fewer risks.   It will cover first aid, resuscitation, bleeding, shock and general discussion of common injuries.

Specialist First Aid course is designed for dealing with casualties under 8 years old.  A two day course, it meets Ofsted requirements for childminders and nannies and is ideal for playgroup staff.

FOOD HYGIENE


Fundamentals in Food Hygiene
Basic course covering essentials designed for personnel undertaking first line duty in preparing, serving or retailing food.  No previous knowledge required.   Contents inclusive of food poisoning, bacteria, hygiene control, pest control, kitchen layout, temperature control, cleaning & disinfection.  
Can be tailored to fit with shift work if required.

Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene / with update
CIEH level 1 course to give first tier workers an appreciation of the fundamentals of good food hygiene as above.
1 day course with objective test.

Intermediate Certificate in Food Hygiene (CIEH)
Designed for those working at a supervisory level the course includes all above plus legislation and supervisory management.
Successful candidates will be able to take part in food monitoring, training, supervise food handlers, carry out hygiene audits and assist in hazard anaylsis and policy making. 
Three day course.

Advanced Certificate in Food Hygiene (CIEH)
Course tailored for production managers, trainers, owners or managers of food businesses, & supervisors.  Successful candidates will be able to manage food safety, audit and monitor, design hygienic practices and procedures, staff training, interpret legal requirements and establish hazard analysis projects. 
Five day course with exam. 

Intermediate Certificate Hazard Analysis (CIEH)
Course designed to provide knowledge and skills to develop or improve competency in carrying out hazard analysis activities in a food basis.  Will assist proprietors of food businesses to operate more safely and meet requirements of current legislation.
Two day course.

All above based on a three year renewable certificate.
